Road Safety Panel

Background to the Road Safety Panel:

The Road Safety Panel was formed in 1988.The Panel membership comprises a mixture of Pubic Employees and members of the public who have an interest in road safety.  The maximum number of members of the Panel is fifteen.

Anyone may apply for membership of the Panel by contacting the Road Safety Officer in the first instance. 

The Panel’s objectives are:

a. Promote road safety within the Island community, in line with the strategic plan on road safety.

b. Promote public awareness regarding road safety within the Island.

c. Identify road safety issues.

d. Plan, organise and take part in the running of road safety campaigns within the Island.

The Panel sponsor on any annual basis a play called ‘Too much punch for Judy’ in conjunction with Education, Sport & Culture.This is a play depicting a true story of a drink drive death.The play is extremely powerful and is seen by all year 11 students around the Island each year.

The Panel have for several years jointly organised and run the ‘Young driver of the Year' competition with Jersey’s Advanced Drivers Association. The competition is presently being re-vamped by the Panel, and it is hoped to launch the new concept in 2012.  Panel members have also provided input into the recent ‘Speed Strategy’ and the ‘Integrated Travel & Transport Plan’.They also provide support to the annual road safety campaigns run by the States of Jersey Police.

During 2011 the Panel is planning a campaign aimed at raising awareness of motorcycle safety.
